Last updated: June 9, 2026

1. Who we are

Medical Companion is developed and published by Unobyte IT Consulting, a Canadian limited company based in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. These terms govern your use of the Medical Companion mobile application and the website at medicalcompanion.io and medicalcompanion.app.

By using Medical Companion you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the app or website.

2. Not medical advice

Medical Companion is a personal health organisation and medication tracking tool. It is not a medical device, diagnostic tool, clinical decision support system, or substitute for professional medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment.

Nothing in the app or on the website constitutes medical advice. Always consult a qualified healthcare professional before making any decision about your medications, health, or treatment. Never disregard or delay seeking professional medical advice because of something you read or tracked in Medical Companion.

In a medical emergency, call your local emergency services immediately. Medical Companion is not an emergency response service.

3. Who can use Medical Companion

You must be at least 18 years old to create an account or subscription. If you are creating a profile for a child or dependent, you confirm that you are the parent, legal guardian, or have appropriate authority to do so.

Medical Companion is available in Canada, the United States, and other jurisdictions where it is made available through the Apple App Store and Google Play. You are responsible for ensuring your use complies with local laws.

4. Your health data

All health data you enter into Medical Companion is stored locally on your device. We do not have access to your health data. You are solely responsible for:

  • ·The accuracy of information you enter
  • ·Keeping your device secure and backed up
  • ·Any decisions you make based on information in the app
  • ·Managing access to your device and the app

If you lose your device or uninstall the app without an active backup, your data cannot be recovered by us.

5. Subscriptions and payments

Medical Companion offers a free tier and optional paid subscriptions. Paid subscriptions are processed entirely through Apple App Store (iOS) and Google Play (Android) under their respective terms of service.

Subscription pricing, billing cycles, free trial terms, and cancellation policies are governed by Apple and Google. Refunds are handled according to Apple's and Google's refund policies. We do not process payments directly and cannot issue refunds outside of those platforms.

You can cancel your subscription at any time through your Apple ID or Google Play account settings. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period.

Free tier features are available indefinitely with no time limit. Paid features become unavailable if a subscription lapses, but your data remains on your device and is not deleted.

6. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • ·Use Medical Companion for any unlawful purpose
  • ·Attempt to reverse engineer, decompile, or extract source code from the app
  • ·Use the app to store or manage health data for individuals without appropriate authority or consent
  • ·Misrepresent your identity or authority when creating dependent profiles

7. Dependent and caregiver profiles

If you create a profile for an elderly adult, child, or other dependent, you confirm that you have the legal authority or consent required to manage their health information. You are responsible for ensuring your use of dependent profiles complies with applicable privacy and consent laws in your jurisdiction.

For child profiles, you confirm you are the parent or legal guardian of the child. Medical Companion does not independently verify guardian relationships.

8. Exports and clinical use

Exports generated by Medical Companion — PDF, CSV, and FHIR JSON — are patient-reported health records, not clinical records. They are provided as a convenience for sharing with healthcare professionals.

Healthcare professionals who receive Medical Companion exports should treat them as patient-reported data and apply appropriate clinical judgment. We make no representations about the clinical accuracy or completeness of exported data.

9. Intellectual property

Medical Companion, including its design, code, branding, and content, is owned by Unobyte IT Consulting. Nothing in these terms grants you any rights to our intellectual property beyond the limited licence to use the app for personal health tracking purposes.

The Informed Patient newsletter content is owned by Unobyte IT Consulting and may not be reproduced without permission.

10. Disclaimer of warranties

Medical Companion is provided on an as-is and as-available basis. To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, we make no warranties, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement.

We do not warrant that the app will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of viruses or other harmful components. We do not warrant the accuracy or completeness of any information in the app.

11. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Unobyte IT Consulting shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of Medical Companion, including but not limited to loss of data, loss of health information, or harm arising from reliance on information in the app.

Our total liability to you for any claim arising from these terms or your use of Medical Companion shall not exceed the amount you paid us in the twelve months preceding the claim.

12. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of British Columbia and the federal laws of Canada applicable therein. Any disputes shall be resolved in the courts of British Columbia, Canada.

13. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. We will update the effective date at the top of this page when we do. For material changes we will notify waitlist and newsletter subscribers by email. Continued use of Medical Companion after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
